Marinerong Pilipino clobbers Gamboa, stays in D-League playoff hunt

MANILA, Philippines – Marinerong Pilipino continued its push to make the 2017 PBA D-League Foundation Cup quarterfinals, cruising to its fourth straight win with a 69-point demolition of Gamboa Coffee Mix, 138-69, on Monday at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig.

Everything went the way of the Skippers, as they turned a 24-all tie in the second period to a commanding 57-41 halftime lead, before the margin eventually exploded to 69 points – the second biggest winning margin in D-League history.

The mark was just seven points away from Tanduay's 76-point rout of Zark's Burgers last July 10.

Pao Javelona top-scored for Marinerong Pilipino with 16 points on top of three assists and two rebounds. Seven other players scored double-digits in the lopsided contet.

Joseph Marata also went for 15 markers, all coming in the first half, while Ralph Salcedo and Renzo Subido both tallied an identical statline of 12 points and five assists.

The Skippers improved to 5-4 with the victory, and a win over AMA Online Education on Thursday will send them to the playoffs.
