Marinero spoils Mac Cardona's debut for Zark's Burgers

MANILA, Philippines – Marinerong Pilipino kept its flickering playoff hopes alive in the 2017 PBA D-League Foundation Cup by drubbing the woeful Zark's Burgers, 119-74, on Tuesday at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.

Mark Isip imposed his veteran presence early, pouring nine of his 12 points in the first period while also grabbing six rebounds as Marinero established an early 17-7 advantage.

Pao Javelona contributed 17 points, seven assists, four rebounds, and three steals, while John Lopez was a rebound shy of a double-double with 15 points and nine rebounds in the 45-point rout.

Marinero's huge win ruined the Zark's debut of former PBA star Mac Cardona, who saw action for the Jawbreakers for the first time as he tries to revive his professional career.

"We just wanted to break their spirit early, pound them, and attack them," said Marinero coach Koy Banal. "The players responded well, even if we found out that Mac was playing today."

Cardona had 11 points, three rebounds, and two assists in 23 minutes of playing time for the Jawbreakers.
