Jalalon hurt; Belo back in harness

As the national team welcomed Mac Belo to its roster, guard Jio Jalalon will be sidelined for a few days but will be ready when Gilas Pilipinas competes in the William Jones Cup in Taiwan this week.

Mac Belo
Jalalon of the Star Hotshots hurt his left ankle in the third quarter of the Nationals’ tuneup against the Blackwater Elite last Friday, and x-rays showed a moderate sprain.

“It’s not serious,” said Dexter Aseron, the physical therapist of Gilas, when contacted yesterday by Bulletin-Tempo. “A few days of rest and he’ll be ready for the Jones Cup. Probably two days before the tournament.”

The national team defeated Blackwater, 105-101. Jalalon showed up with an obvious limp when Gilas faced Alaska the next day.

Gilas mentor Chot Reyes named Jalalon to the 16-man squad that will compete in the Jones Cup on July 15 to 23. He suited up for the national team that bagged the Southeast East Asian Basketball Association (SEABA) Championship here two months ago.

In that SEABA tournament, Belo missed the cut as he battled injuries due to the wear-and-tear of playing since his days with Far Eastern University.
