Halep clinches longest active Top 10 streak as Serena exits

LONDON, Great Britain - Few things are guaranteed following the Wimbledon fortnight, but one this is for sure: Simona Halep will leave the All England Club with the longest active streak in the Top 10 at 182 consecutive weeks.

Halep entered the Top 10 for the first time on Jan 27, 2014, and has been there ever since, debuting at No.10 and currently at her career-high ranking of No.2.

Simona Halep is set to hold the longest active streak in the Top 10 on next Monday's WTA rankings; 23-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams will exit the Top 10 as her maternity hiatus continues.
Since debuting in the Top 5 in the spring of 2014, the Romanian has spent just nine weeks below that threshold - one of those weeks coming this year when the points she earned from winning the 2016 Mutua Madrid Open points came off her ranking a week before the tournament. Halep went on to defend that title and return to the Top 4, where she has been there for the last seven weeks.

The streak comes at the expense of former World No.1 and reigning Australian Open champion Serena Williams. Williams has not played on tour since breaking the Open Era record for most Grand Slam titles in Melbourne, taking time off to give birth to her first child. The American won her 22nd major title at last year's Wimbledon Championships, and will thus exit the Top 10 when those points fall off of the 52-week ranking cycle.

Roland Garros winner Jelena Ostapenko has a chance of making her Top 10 debut, provided she outperforms Serena's sister Venus, whom she currently trails in the WTA rankings.

Both Ostapenko and Venus are set to play their fourth round matches on Manic Monday, and could meet in the quarterfinals.
