Grateful Rhodes finally tastes a championship with SMB

MANILA, Philippines — It was quite the ride for San Miguel Beer’s Charles Rhodes.

Having to fight for a Beermen slot against an NBA-tested talent, Rhodes played like he was still trying out. He hooped like he can get replaced any night. In the realm of the PBA, there’s always that possibility.

But playing with such mindset has led him to many things—a Best Import citation, for one.

On Sunday, he got the 6-foot-8 Texas native got the grandest prize.

"I’m just lost for words. I just want to thank San Miguel for choosing me over Dominic McGuire,” Rhodes said after San Miguel defeated the TNT KaTropa for the 2017 Commissioner’s Cup title in six games.

McGuire is a six-year NBA veteran who had played for seven various teams.
