GlobalPort coach Pumaren downplays bench spat with Pringle

MANILA, Philippines – GlobalPort coach Franz Pumaren made light of what seemed to be an intense argument with one of his star guards, Stanley Pringle, during the second quarter of their 124-108 loss to Barangay Ginebra in the 2017 PBA Governors' Cup on Sunday.

Pumaren and Pringle were shown vehemently arguing during a timeout with 4:35 to go in the second period, to the point where the player threw a towel in frustration, inadvertently hitting teammate Sean Anthony. Pringle then exited the huddle and had to be calmed down by team manager Bonnie Tan.

"Don't talk to me like that," Pumaren was heard barking at Pringle.

The two were eventually seen talking calmly before the start of the third period, with Tan again serving as mediator. There were no more flare-ups the rest of the way, but GlobalPort still ended up taking the loss.

"It's no biggie," Pumaren said of the incident. "It's normal for coaches during the heat of the game. You cannot (be) mellow or what. It's no biggie. It's just like me when I was playing. I sued to argue with my coaches."

Pringle declined to be interviewed after the game, but Pumaren made it clear that he had no problem after their verbal spat.
