For Joshua Pacio, no room for complacency against unbeaten foe

Former strawweight contender Joshua Pacio faces a tough task when he takes on a grappling expert in undefeated Japanese fighter Hayato Suzuki.

The fight will take place in the undercard of ONE: Kings & Conquerors at The Venetian in Macao on August 5.

Out of 16 career wins, Suzuki finished off 11 of his opponents, including six by submission and five by knockout. He owns a remarkable record of 16-0-2 and is known as a well-rounded fighter who has the ability to stop his foes with his heavy hands and technical skills.

Pacio said of his three-rounder clash against Suzuki: “It’s going to be an action-packed fight. I can’t be complacent. Moreover, I have to be two steps or three steps ahead of him,”

But Pacio is a wushu sanshou specialist with a solid grappling repertoire. All but one of his career victories came via spectacular finish, including 5 wins by submission and 3 wins by knockout.

Last March, he did the unthinkable by upsetting 3-time Lumpinee champion Dejdamrong Sor Amnuaysirichoke.
