Filipino-Belgian wins bronze in jiu-jitsu World Games

WROCLAW, Poland - Filipino-Belgian Ian Lodens and his teammate, Charis Gravensteyn, won the bronze in the 2017 World Games here on Saturday.

The duo, who competed in the mixed category, beat Switzerland in the first round by a point (94-93).

Pinoy-Belgian jiu-jitsu duo Ian Lodens and Charis Gravensteyn secured a podium finish in the 2017 World Games in Poland, Saturday.
In the qualifying round, Belgium scored 4.5 points against Austria (92.5-88) and advanced to the semi-finals.

The duo needed two more wins to be in the finals. However, they lost to Germany by half a point (93-92.5).

Although dismayed with the result, Lodens and Gravensteyn carried on and gave their best shot to bring home the bronze medal for Team Belgium.

“We really hoped to win in the third round to get into the finals so we paid more attention to technical things while doing the exercises. We were both strong but Germany got the half point edge,” Lodens said.
