Ex world champion boxer has warning to those underestimating McGregor

Former 2-weight division champion Paulie Malignaggi described mixed martial arts superstar Conor McGregor as a “capable boxer” who knows what to do.

Malignaggi's assessment came after he spent 8 rounds sparring with the Irish fighter who is lined up to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr. on August 26.

Conor McGregor may be a lot of things, but he's "no dummy," says Paulie Malignaggi, a former world champion and McGregor's recent sparmate. Noah K. Murray, USA Today Sports/Reuters
"Eight rounds, good work. I can’t disclose too much but McGregor is no dummy... There’s a method to his madness. He has an idea of what he wants to do and how he wants to do it, he’s not clueless,” Malignaggi said in a story posted on NYFights.com.

It was the same sparring session wherein McGregor taunted Malignaggi by putting his hands behind his back while both were training inside the ring.

McGregor, who has yet to fight a single round of pro boxing, is seen as a huge underdog against Mayweather, known as one of the best defensive specialists in the sport's history.

To prepare for Mayweather, McGregor tapped the services of Malignaggi for his excellent fundamentals.
