Eric Cray wins gold in Asian Athletics Championships

MANILA, Philippines – In a display of good form ahead of the Southeast Asian Games, Eric Cray ruled the 400m hurdles in the 22nd Asian Athletics Championships in Buhbaneswar, India on Saturday night.

The 28-year-old Cray finished with a time of 49.57 seconds, just ahead of Chinese Taipei's Chen Chieh (49.75 seconds).

It was the Philippines' first gold medal in the event, and the first since Marestella Torres ruled the women's long jump in the 2009 edition of the championships.

The Philippines also has a silver medal courtesy of Mark Harry Diones in the triple jump, and a bronze thanks to Ernest Obiena in the pole vault.

All three athletes are included in the Philippines' roster for their respective events in the upcoming SEA Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in August. Cray will defend his titles in the 400m hurdles and 100m.
