Brisbane gives Jerwin Ancajas opportunity to attract global fame, bigger fortune

Jerwin Ancajas gets the biggest break of his professional career on Sunday, as he defends his world junior bantamweight title against the rangy and calculating Teiru Kinoshita of Japan in front of a gigantic crowd in Brisbane, Australia.

Throngs of people are expected to troop to the 50,000-seater Suncorp Stadium when the 12-round tussle for the International Boxing Federation belt takes place as the supporting bout of the Manny Pacquiao-Jeff Horn headliner.

Because the card is expected to be viewed by millions around the world, fight analyst Dennis Principe believes the Brisbane bout is a potential gateway to international renown for Ancajas and with it more lucrative fights, perhaps in the US.

"He realized this fight is bigger than his title challenge last year, kasi alam niya ito na ang kulang sa kanyang title reign is him becoming a household name," Principe said.

"He's aware na merong mga naging champions before na hindi nakilala, kasi walang exposure, walang TV coverage. He knows the importance of him fighting on TV."

For Ed Tolentino, a veteran fight commentator, Kinoshita is the perfect opponent for Ancajas to show what he's made of.
