TNT’s Smith gets extra motivated with daughter’s impending birth

MANILA, Philippines – Like San Miguel's Charles Rhodes, TNT's Joshua Smith doesn't have a shortage of motivation in the PBA Finals.

The hulking KaTropa import had been playing through an injured foot ever since the semifinals. This time, he has been playing through an episode of anxiety—one that's coming from miles away.

"[TNT knows] what I’m sacrificing outside of my foot—the birth of my daughter. It probably won’t hit me until she’s actually out. She's due Thursday," Smith said shortly after helping TNT defeat the Beermen and level the series to two games apiece.

"I really have a lot to say. I’m happy, anxious, nervous. I want to see what this baby looks like. We’re still playing with a lot of names," the 6-foot-9 behemoth said.

"I’m feeling a lot better that we won, but I’ll try to get some rest and be ready," he added.

TNT, in a classy move, came out to play with a patch on their right shoulder. It read "Kristy," the name of Smith's partner. And it became a driving force for the team in Game Four Wednesday night.
