Strycova sprints past Muguruza in Eastbourne

EASTBOURNE, Great Britain - World No.23 Barbora Strycova put on a ruthless display to move through to the round of 16 at the Aegon International on Wednesday, surrendering just one game en route to a 6-1, 6-0 defeat of No.11 seed Garbiñe Muguruza.

A looming grass court opponent, the Czech reached the last eight at Wimbledon in 2014 and has upended two former finalists at the All-England Club this week in Eastbourne, beginning with Eugenie Bouchard in the first round and Muguruza on Wednesday.

Former Wimbledon quarterfinalist Barbora Strycova trounced former finalist Garbiñe Muguruza in the second round of the Aegon International.
Strycova never looked like the player who had lost three of four career meetings against the World No.15 coming into the match, and three tight games to begin the first set set the tone - as they all went the Czech's way- before she ran off the last eight games of the match.

In the opening game of the match, Muguruza led 40-15 on serve but was broken, and a second break went Strycova's way in the third game after the Spaniard's led 40-0. In between, Strycova was forced to save five break points in her second service game - the lone opportunities that Muguruza had to break serve in the match.

Serving at 85 percent over two sets, Strycova dropped just nine points on serve in total and hit five aces to earn her second career win over the former Roland Garros champion - in their first meeting on grass.

Conversely, Muruguza struggled on serve despite landing nearly 70 percent of her first deliveries - Strycova won more than 50 percent of points played behind Muguruza's first and second serve, including a whopping 74 percent of the points played when the Spaniard missed her first attempt.
