Smith cool with ‘Jumbotron’ moniker

Ever since Joshua Smith took over as TnT KaTropa’s import from Donte Greene in the 2017 PBA Commissioners Cup, most have marveled at how big he is, making other players in the court smaller than usual.

His hulking presence gave TnT a big boost, particularly in the semifinals against crowd-favorite Ginebra San Miguel. Despite playing with an injured leg, TnT advanced and allowed the Gin Kings to win just one game.

With his size, it comes to no surprise that some have been calling him as “Jumbotron.” Regardless, Smith doesn’t mind the moniker.

“I actually don’t mind Jumbotron,” said Smith on his newest nickname.

There was a time when Smith struggled with his weight with the UCLA Bruins. He was eventually cut and moved to Georgetown where he finished college.

From there, Smith went on to shoot for his NBA dream. He was undrafted and settled joining the Miami Heat Summer League team in 2015. He would soon be signed by the Houston Rockets.
