Record-breaking quarter pushes Tanduay past Gamboa

MANILA, Philippines – Tanduay overcame a slow start, then torched Gamboa Coffee Mix in a scintillating third quarter en route to a 113-71 win in the 2017 PBA D-League Foundation Cup on Tuesday at the Ynares Sports Center in Pasig City.

Trailing 34-37 at the end of the first half, the Rhum Masters came out firing when action resumed, scoring 23 straight points to open the frame. They eventually tallied 53 points in the third quarter – the most in PBA D-League history – to turn the three-point deficit into a commanding 87-49 advantage.

The trio of Von Tambeling, Lester Alvarez, and Paul Varilla was unstoppable, as they went 21-of-26 from the field.

Tanduay secured its third straight win and moved to joint second place with its 3-1 slate.

"Si Von Tambeling talaga ang spark namin. 'Di ko siya pinalaro ng first half, pero ang ganda ng pinakita niya para sa amin. Nakita namin 'yung energy na nawawala noong first half," said coach Lawrence Chongson.

Tambeling scored all 13 of his points in the third quarter while also contributing three rebounds and two assists.
