Jeff Horn cool, calm ahead of biggest fight

A few days before the biggest fight of his young professional boxing career, Australia's Jeff Horn is keeping himself on an even keel.

The 29-year-old Horn is set to challenge Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao for the WBO welterweight title on July 2 at the Suncorp Stadium in his hometown of Brisbane, Australia.

It is a dream come true for Horn, who got into boxing to learn to defend himself from bullies. He represented Australia in the 2012 London Olympics, then turned pro and compiled a record of 16 wins and one draw before landing the opportunity of a lifetime – a bout against the "Pacman."

Fighting Pacquiao is not just a step up in competition for Horn; it is a huge leap. The Australian has never faced a boxer of Pacquiao's caliber, and he certainly has not done so while fighting in a 55,000-capacity stadium in front of his hometown fans.

"I've trained the hardest that I've ever had for this fight," Horn said earnestly on Monday as he faced the media in Brisbane. "To finally get in the ring and show what I've done is all I want to do at this stage. I've finished all the hard work, and I'm just ready to show that in the ring."

Horn is clearly the underdog, with pundits pointing to the massive advantage that Pacquiao has in terms of experience, as well as the Filipino fighter's speed and punching power as his advantages. Even at 38 years old, the "Pacman" remains one of the best in the world.
