Cignal torches Wangs for 5th straight win

MANILA, Philippines – Cignal went on a hot streak early to decimate Wangs Basketball, 94-69, for its fifth consecutive victory in the 2017 PBA D-League Foundation Cup on Thursday at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.

Jason Perkins and Oping Sumalinog anchored the Hawkeyes' 26-5 run to open the game, and wound up scoring 20 of the team's 32 points in the first quarter.

Cignal would go on to lead by as much as 34 points as it cruised to a sixth victory against two losses in the tournament.

"Credit to my starters," said coach Boyet Fernandez. "Nag-step up sila on defense, and that's why we got to that big lead early."

Cignal stays at fourth place in the league standings with its 6-2 win-loss record.

Perkins scored 12 of his 24 points in the first quarter, while also contributing five rebounds and two blocks. Sumalinog finished with 15 points on top of five boards and two rejections as well.
